Money to compensate for economic losses due to the war in Ukraine is not included in the 2024 budget. However, the unused funds for state co-financing under various EU programmes can be used for the so-called "Ukrainian aid", Minister of Agriculture Kiril Vatev told the National Assembly Committee on Agriculture, Food and Forestry. The possibility was confirmed by Finance Minister Assen Vassilev. It will be negotiated at a meeting between branch organisations, the prime minister, the country’s deputy premier and Bulgaria’s minister of finance scheduled for 16:30 pm on January 22.
In a declaration to the cabinet, grain growers demanded that they be included in subsidized aid over the war in Ukraine, although in 2023 they had no claim to receive such money. According to the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Desislava Taneva, the Minister of Finance has estimated that the aid will be around EUR 100 million. However, Minister Vatev refused to give specific figures.
