Interest in electric cars in Bulgaria has been growing

Photo: EVN Bulgaria

Despite the high prices, and the, as yet, insufficient number of charging stations and the necessary infrastructure, electric cars have been growing more and more popular in Bulgaria, the website Investor BG writes.

According to Investor BG data, 2,522 new electric cars were registered in Bulgaria in 2023, or 5.9% of the entire new car market in the country, plus another 3,041 used electric cars. By way of comparison, in 2022, 1,176 electric cars were registered accounting for 3.5% of the market.

Besides the low cost of driving an electric car, one more factor which the buyers of this type of vehicles appreciate very much is the free parking in urban areas, even where there are blue and green paid parking zones.
