Public transport workers in the capital city took to the streets this morning demanding a 30% pay rise. The protest, organised by the Federation of Transport Unions of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria, led to delays on some routes in the morning hours.

At a meeting with the protesters, the capital's mayor, Vasil Terziev, promised a 15% pay rise for public transport workers from 1 March. Negotiations will continue and options will be sought for further pay rises this year. The capital's public transport workers will remain on protest alert until they receive their first pay rise.
