Seasonal flu is 6 times more prevalent in Bulgaria than coronavirus infection. In Sofia the incidence rate is 83 per 10,000, and the average for the country is 159 per 10,000, i.e. the number of flu cases in the country is yet to go up, epidemiologist and health advisor with Sofia municipality Prof. Todor Kantardjiev said in an interview with bTV.

“Out of 577 samples, for every individual infected with coronavirus, we have 6 infected with the flu,” Prof. Kantardjiev said. “Around 70% are flu A, flu B accounts for less than 5%. This means we are still far from the end of the epidemic because when the number of flu B cases starts going up, that is when we know the end is coming,” the epidemiologist explained. “Influenza only affects the lining of the lungs. In the space of two hours you are running a fever, have a dry and painful cough, joint and muscle pain, sensitivity to light,” Prof. Todor Kantardjiev explained. There are more scarlet fever cases than in 2023, the expert said and explained that it is treated with the cheapest antibiotics.
