The ''Justice for All'' initiative held a protest at Independence Square in central Sofia against the election of Desislava Atanasova and Borislav Belazelkov as Constitutional Court judges from the Parliamentary quota. The rally was held under the slogan "Constitutional Court under siege! In defence of law and democracy". "We are protesting today because on Friday the newly elected constitutional judges will be sworn in," said the chairman of the initiative Velislav Velichkov. He described the election as scandalous and iniquitous and called on the newly elected constitutional judges to postpone the oath taking until the Constitutional Court rules on the case.

Bulgaria’s President and the opposition parties in Parliament referred the election to the Constitutional Court.

The Constitutional Court opened a case on the request of MPs from Vazrazhdane, There is Such a People and the Bulgarian Socialist Party against the election of constitutional judges from the parliamentary quota. The rapporteur on the case is judge Konstantin Penchev, who is also a rapporteur on another case opened after President Radev referred the constitutional judges’ election to the Constitutional Court.
