From 20 to 28 January, residents of Rome and visitors to the Eternal City can see the exhibition "The Beauty of Roman Mosaics (1st to 6th centuries). Discoveries in Bulgarian Lands" by Katya Badinska-Lekova. The show will be held at the Bulgarian Gallery at 60 Monte Brianza Street in the historical centre of the Italian capital. The event is organised by the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Rome.

Katya Badinska-Lekova has been painting since the 1970s and had her first exhibition in Sofia in 1981. She painted in oils, then switched to pastels, and in recent years has also worked in acrylics on glass. Some of her paintings are in private collections in Bulgaria, Germany and the USA.

The aesthetics of ancient Roman stone tiles, with their figures and miniatures, have long fascinated Katya Lekova. She is a chemist and university lecturer by profession, but also a great connoisseur of classical works of art.

She is well aware of the immense effort and inspiration that artists put into creating their works of art. Consequently, she cannot bear the thought that one day masterpieces of antiquity, such as mosaics, might disappear from our lands. She has devoted a considerable amount of time and personal resources to travelling and photographing places where even the smallest fragments of mosaics can be found. Her mission, however, goes beyond mere documentation. After photographing them, she tries to creatively transfer these images onto glass using a special technique, as Gergana Mancheva's report for Radio Bulgaria reveals.
