Wind turbines might pose risk to Black Sea tourism and fishing

The Bulgarian Parliament has adopted at first reading the Renewable Sources Enegy Act in marine spaces.  It is proposed with a motive to settle the administrative path and principles for planning, construction, operation and removal at the end of their useful life of power plants in the maritime spaces of Bulgaria.

"This law gives incredible preferences to those who would build wind turbines in the sea. It is, to put it mildly, a lobbyist law," Dimitar Kumanov from the Balkanika association  told BNR. The association voices its objections to the bill before the parliamentary Environment Committee, but this has had no serious impact.

"This law was adopted without considering the opinion of all state bodies. We have pointed out that it is against the Renewable Energy Act. Environmental impact assessments are paid by the investors in Bulgaria. "

European experience shows that low-frequency vibrations and electromagnetic radiation drive away all living things from the sea. The noise will be heard tens of kilometers away.

Kumanov believes that this law is created because of a specific investor.

There will be large-scale protests by the fishermen, Kumanov pointed out and expressed hope that the authorities will withdraw the bill.
