NSI: Business sentiment improves at the beginning of the year

In January 2024, the business sentiment in the country improved due to the improvement of the business climate across all observed sectors. In industry and construction, there are expectations for some price increases in the next three months, while managers in trade and the service sector do not foresee any price changes in the coming months.

In January, the business climate indicator increased by 3 percentage points compared to December 2023, when it dropped by 1.8 percentage points to 22.8%, shows the latest survey by the National Statistical Institute. The business climate indicator in industry increased by 2.6 points in January. The business climate indicator in the construction sector increased by 4.6 points. The business climate indicator in the service sector was up 2.4 points and the indicator in the retail trade sector increased with 2.9 points. The uncertain economic environment and labour shortages remain the main problems for business development.
