The town of Razgrad is hosting a Falconry festival. The initiative "Saint Trifon - Falconry competition" is being organized for the first year in the town in Bulgaria's Ludogorie region by three local entrepreneurs Dzhipo Dzhipov, Andrey Andreev and Hristofor Iliev. The falconry festival includes competitions with birds of prey, for which members of the Bulgarian Falconry Union and the Romanian Falconry Association arrive in Razgrad with 14 birds.

The event promotes the ancient hunting tradition of falconry, which has been known for millennia in the Balkans and which fosters children's love for wild birds, explained one of the organizers, Andrey Andreev.

The choice of the date February 1 is not accidental, either.

On this day, Bulgarians pay homage to the memory of Saint Trifon who is the patron saint not only of vine-growers and winemakers, but also of falconers.
