Martin "The Notary" Bozhanov, who was shot dead in the Bulgarian capital on Wednesday night, was being investigated by the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office, deputy head of the office Ivo Iliev said. The allegations were of property fraud, money laundering and coercion and threats against judges in civil cases in which the victim had an interest. The investigation was in its final stages, but "The Notary" had not yet been charged.

Martin Bozhanov's name has been linked to reports of dozens of property frauds for years, and there have been official reports of threats against two sitting judges.

"The Notary" owned an expensive property in Greece and several others in the country, according to the murder investigation. It also shows that the incident was reported 50 minutes after the shooting, when the victim's wife said she found him.

There is still no leading version of the murder.
