During the annual conference of Bulgaria’s Chief of Defense, President Rumen Radev pointed out that two years after the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the Bulgarian army faces the same problems as before, reported Dobromir Videv from the BNR’s "Horizont channel. According to the president, "emergency measures are needed to attract qualified young people, and to motivate and keep them in the armed forces."

For his part, Chief of Defense Admiral Emil Eftimov called on Bulgaria to allocate at least 2% of its GDP for defense and emphasized that the aid to Ukraine goes in parallel with the modernization of the Bulgarian army. Minister of Defense Todor Tagarev noted that problems should be addressed collectively. Many NATO member countries have increased their defense budgets, but the more complex issue is whether there is anything to buy in a sufficiently short and reasonable timeframe, noted Tagarev.
