Digital paintings by a Bulgarian artist are now on the moon

Two digital paintings by Bulgarian artist Silvia Stratieva were transported to the moon by the Odysseus lunar lander. They are part of the Lunar Codex project, she told Faktor.bg.

The Odysseus spacecraft, built and operated by Intuitive Machines, landed near the moon's south pole on February 22. It has been the first landing of an American spacecraft on the moon for 50 years and is an entirely private project. Stratieva pointed out that the Odysseus moon landing is also a step toward sending man-made artifacts beyond Earth, with the moon serving as humanity's celestial canvas.

Lunar Codex uses digital and analog technology to preserve art, books and music, sealed in time capsules and launched to the moon. This is a message in a bottle to the future, the author adds. Her two paintings are included in the "Lunar Codex" thanks to the fact that they participated in the largest competition for contemporary realism, the 16th ARC Salon in 2023, BGNES reports.
