The candidate of the Party of European Socialists (PES) for President of the European Commission, Nicolas Schmit, expressed full support for the admission of Bulgaria and Romania to Schengen. He said this at a meeting with the former chairman of PES and former prime minister of Bulgaria Sergey Stanishev. "I have always supported Bulgaria and Romania, it is time for them to become part of Schengen completely. Your country is very important for European security and should be supported and noticed," Schmit said, BNR correspondent in Brussels Angelina Piskova reported.

A PES congress is being held in Rome today, at which the election of Nicolas Schmit as the candidate of the European left for the President of the EC is to be confirmed.
