"Today is a day when we should all unite and talk only about what we have in common. It is not a day for attacks, but for celebration," Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov told journalists after the flag-raising ceremony at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier in Sofia on the 146th anniversary of the Liberation of Bulgaria.

According to Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev, who also attended the ceremony, the best way to honour freedom and the deeds of those who won it is to fight for it every day, because freedom is not a given.
On the day of the celebrations, the façade of Sofia City Hall will be illuminated in the colours of the Bulgarian flag, and many galleries and museums will be open to the public free of charge.
