"It's not about racial tension", outgoing Minister of Interior Kalin Stoyanov wrote on Facebook regarding the recent clashes between Bulgarians and foreigners in central Sofia. He informed that there are detainees in both cases, videos of which circulated on social networks.

A 24-year-old Egyptian and a 20-year-old Syrian have been arrested for the assault on two underage boys and a girl on Vitosha Boulevard. According to Kalin Stoyanov, it is a conflict of a personal nature, as the young people knew each other. A 16-year-old person who led the group of Bulgarians who assaulted British students of Pakistani descent on the same boulevard was also detained. He is known to police for thefts and robberies.

Minister Stoyanov said the incidents should not be used for political purposes through claims that these conflict situations were based on race.
