I would not insist on a date, the important thing is that in 2025 Bulgaria will be in the Eurozone and that is realistic. This is how Kristalina Georgieva, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), responded at a briefing in Sofia.

We know that for Bulgaria entering the Eurozone is a legitimate priority. It will improve competitiveness, reduce transaction costs in trade and finance, and be more attractive for investments, Georgieva said.

She believes that there are good conditions for the country to meet the requirements for the Eurozone by the end of the year. But the IMF recommends the Bulgarian government to be careful about the movement of prices, because inflation is a tax on people's incomes and affects the poor especially hard, reports BTA.

In response to a question about how the country's economy looks, Georgieva commented that, with the exception of inflation, Bulgaria looks good in the world and has managed to maintain growth. Inflation came from the two successive shocks - the pandemic that hit the world economy and the war in Ukraine, which for Europe, including Bulgaria, remains a significant factor, explained Georgieva.
