A floating mine was spotted in the sea off Kabakum beach in Varna, some 250 meters offshore.

The sighting was reported this morning to the police in the city. The area was sealed off, and the people from the nearby fishing village evacuated, after which the mine was destroyed by the military by controlled detonation.

The Bulgarian navy stand in readiness to take mine countermeasures so as to ensure safe navigation in Bulgaria’s maritime areas, the Ministry of Defence says.
