The National Assembly tasked outgoing Minister of Finance Assen Vassilev with taking the necessary actions to cover the operational deficit in the Electricity System Security Fund amounting to EUR 500 million by March 31. This fund receives 5% of the monthly revenues from electricity producers and transmission fees, with the current deficit standing at EUR 500 million.
"In this way, we guarantee that Bulgarian consumers will not pay for what has been done in the Electricity System Security Fund ", said MP Zhecho Stankov from GERB. Only the MPs from We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (PP-DB) voted against the decision, with three MPs of their group abstaining. "We were not discussing something that is important for the Bulgarian citizens, but a political document that was used entirely against Finance Minister Assen Vassilev," said Nastimir Ananiev from PP-DB.
