Governmental crisis turned into parliamentary crisis, elections are looming

With 226 votes "for", no votes against and one "abstention" at an extraordinary meeting, the National Assembly of Bulgaria decided that the first mandate to form a government with Prime Minister candidate Mariya Gabriel from GERB-SDS ended unsuccessfully. According to the Constitution, a second exploratory mandate for forming a government is to be handed over.

On behalf of "We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria" (PP-DB) Atanas Atanasov confirmed their readiness to form a government with the second mandate "with a mutually acceptable candidate for prime minister, issued by the parliamentary group of GERB-SDS".

The 49th National Assembly is drained of power, said BSP leader Kornelia Ninova. "We don't want a third cabinet-forming mandate", emphasized Ninova.

It is clear that we are going to elections, everything else is a kind of a painful farce, said the co-chairman of the MRF Delyan Peevski in the parliament. "Mr. Borisov excluded the possibility of a second term. I exclude a third mandate if it is handed over to the MRF", added Peevski.
