There Is Such a People (ITN) thanked President Rumen Radev for placing his trust in them, and handed the third and last mandate for forming a cabinet back to him unfulfilled.

The folder was handed back empty by the deputy chair of ITN’s parliamentary group Ivaylo Valchev with the words: “We are glad this 9-month long agony is over”. Ivaylo Valchev stated that his party fully understands the situation the president has been placed in by the "unnecessary" changes to the Constitution, which ITN voted against, and wished the head of state "strength and wisdom" and that from now on "it is up to the people".

On his part, President Radev announced he was beginning meetings with all potential prime ministers in the future caretaker government – today, tomorrow, and if need be, over the weekend. It is the caretaker cabinet’s principal job to organize the early parliamentary election. The president can choose the caretaker prime minister from among: the president of the National Assembly, the governor and the deputy governors of the Bulgarian National Bank, the president and the vice presidents of the National Audit Office, and the ombudsman or a deputy ombudsman.

The mandate handed to ITN was the last chance for forming a regular government within the current National Assembly.

President Radev now has to set a date for early elections for parliament, after the three cabinet-forming mandates were handed back to him unfulfilled.
