The European Public Prosecutor's Office in Sofia has conducted searches at two hotels in a Bulgarian ski resort as part of an investigation into fraud involving EU subsidies for Covid-19, reports BNR's Brussels correspondent Angelina Piskova. The money was supposed to be used to compensate staff salaries as tourism was suspended during the pandemic. It is suspected that some of the employees were asked by their employer to pay back part of their salaries. At the same time, documents from the hotel administration show that the employees received financial compensation.
