The association For the Earth will hand over a petition to Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev next week, calling for safe crossings and year-round maintenance of bicycle lanes. More than 5 000 people have signed the proposals for cycling in the city.

"The petition, launched in September last year, calls for connected, comfortable and safe cycling routes in Sofia. It aims to raise awareness about the insufficient progress Sofia has made in promoting active mobility and facilitating the increased use of bicycles and scooters," said Dragomira Raeva from For the Earth.

One of the association's recommendations is to create a network of interconnected bike lanes. "Currently, many lanes start and end at major intersections, which is a barrier for people who want to lead a more active lifestyle," the environmental activist explained.
