About 40 small planes landed at Balchik airport. This was how Romanian and Bulgarian pilots celebrated the accession of the two countries to the Schengen area by air.

The pilots and guests were welcomed by Ivan Dimitriev, CEO of Sofia Airport, which manages the airport by the sea.

"A common dream of Bulgarian and Romanian pilots is coming true - to fly freely without borders in Europe," said Ianko Stoimenov, board member of the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association - Bulgaria.
Andrei Zincenzo, President of the Romanian Pilots' Association, emphasised that Bulgarians and Romanians can now truly feel like valued members of the European community.

The Schengen Check event will be repeated on 27 April at the Romanian airport of Tuzla.
