Anton Markov from Russe, who is in the 6th grade, reached the final round of the competition, and faced 4th grader Sava Troanski from Pazardzhik. The winner in the up to 4th grade group is Ekaterina Basheva, also from Russe. She won the final round, in competition with Georgi Avramov from Varna. Ultimately, Anton became champion after spelling attainment from the unfamiliar words list correctly. After he won, Anton said the secret behind his success was spelling with eyes closed. The champion in the older group is a keen programmer and is taking part in the national Spelling Bee final for the second time. Ekaterina Basheva spelled the word discipline correctly.

The Spelling Bee competition has been taking place in Bulgaria for 14 years. It is organized by the CORPluS - Corps for Education and Development, in partnership with the America for Bulgaria foundation, and with the support of the US embassy in Bulgaria.
