Bulgaria’s chess player Nadya Toncheva has qualified for the 2025 Chess World Cup. In 2023, she also participated in the single elimination Women’s Chess World Cup and lost in the first round to Grandmaster Deimante Cornette (Lithuania). In order to secure her second consecutive participation in the World Cup, the 18-year-old Bulgarian had to find a place in Top 10 at the European Championship in Rhodes.

She achieved it by winning with the black pieces in the final round against Khanim Balajayeva from Azerbaijan. Thus, the teenager from Sofia collected 7.5 points, the same as the competitors from 2nd to 9th position. Toncheva finished 7th in the final standings. The champion with 8.5 points is Ulviyya Fataliyeva from Azerbaijan.
