A Bulgarian woman set foot on the highest peak on Earth again. Marieta Georgieva climbed Mount Everest (8,848 meters) and became the third Bulgarian female climber to summit the highest peak on the planet. Marieta Georgieva climbed Everest as part of a commercial expedition led by legendary mountaineer Nirmal Purja. He led the expedition alongside two other famous mountaineers, Mingma David Sherpa and Mingma Tenzi Sherpa. Elite Exped confirmed that Marieta Georgieva is among those who successfully summited Everest.

Petya Kolcheva was the first Bulgarian woman to climb Everest. She summited the world’s tallest peak in May 2009. Two years ago, Silvia Azdreeva also climbed Everest together with Nirmal Purja.

Marieta Georgieva is the 16th Bulgarian to have summited the world's tallest peak. April 20, 2024, marked the 40th anniversary of Bulgaria’s first expedition to Everest. On April 20, 1984, Hristo Prodanov became the first Bulgarian to summit Everest.
