When traveling Bulgarians spend mostly on food

Just over 1 million Bulgarians traveled in the first quarter of 2024, 74.9% of them - in the country, 19.5% - abroad, 5.6% - at home and abroad. 88.2% of personal trips were organized independently (94.8% of trips in the country and 58.2% of those abroad), according to NSI data. In the structure of expenses by types, the largest relative share is that for food, both in the country (36.9%) and abroad (32.2%).

When traveling in this country, accommodation costs follow (29.4%), while when travelling abroad costs for transport reach 30%.

The average cost of a trip with a personal purpose per person is EUR 139.49 in the country and EUR 366.84 abroad.
