In the only one Bulgarian nuclear power plant - "Kozloduy", a ceremony is held today on the occasion of the implementation of an alternative type of fuel in Unit 5 of the plant. Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov participates in the event.

In connection with its nuclear fuel diversification program, Kozloduy NPP concluded a contract with Westinghouse Electric Sweden for the supply of fuel for Unit 5. The first shipment arrived in April and the cartridges are being loaded for use during the unit's scheduled annual overhaul. With the implementation of fresh nuclear fuel produced in the USA, the safe and secure operation of the plant is guaranteed, according to the Ministry of Energy. Until now, the Russian-made VVER reactors of the Bulgarian plant have only operated on Russian nuclear fuel.
