For the first time in the history of Mexico, a female president, Claudia Sheinbaum, is at the head of the country. "For the first time in the 200-year history of the republic, I will be the first female president of Mexico," Sheinbaum, who has Bulgarian roots, told her supporters. She won a landslide victory in the presidential election with about 58% of the votes. Sheinbaum's roots are from Plovdiv. Her grandmother and grandfather immigrated to Mexico from Bulgaria, fleeing the Nazis, BNT reports.

Before entering politics, Claudia Sheinbaum had a brilliant career as a scientist. She was also involved in engineering. She will also go down in history as the first female mayor of the capital, Mexico City. Claudia Sheinbaum managed the city from 2018 to 2023.
