Voter turnout at the 2-in-1 elections in Bulgaria

| updated on 6/9/24 6:49 PM

As of 5 p.m. on June 9, voter turnout in the elections for National Assembly was 23.4%, Gallup sociologist Yanitsa Petkova has told BNR. "This is a relatively lower turnout than the one we had in the last parliamentary elections when at the same time, our agency reported a 30% voter turnout. In comparison to the European elections in 2019, the turnout then was the same as it is now, 24.2 percent," the sociologist pointed out.

As of 3 p.m. on June 9, voter turnout in the elections for National Assembly was 19.7%, Gallup sociologist Yanitsa Petkova told BNR. "In the morning hours, we observed a slightly more active voter turnout than that in the previous elections. At noon and especially after that, we registered a lower voter turnout. In the elections for the National Assembly on April 2, 2023, it was about 25%. Most likely, we would have a lower voter turnout, unless voters become more active in the afternoon hours," Petkova pointed out.

The voter turnout for the European Parliament elections at 3 p.m. was just over 20.4%, with the data being fully comparable to that reported for the European elections in 2019.

Voter turnout for the early Parliamentary elections reached 15.6% at 1.00 pm, said sociologist Svetlin Tachev from Gallup International Balkan. "Voter turnout is starting to slow down, while at the beginning of the day it was almost on par with that of the previous Parliamentary elections on April 2, 2023, when it was 18.0% at 1,00 pm, Svetlin Tachev went on to say. Voter turnout at the European Parliament elections is 16.2% at 1.00 pm. It is lower as compared to the 2019 European Parliament elections.

Voter turnout was 10% at 11 a.m. According to data from Gallup International Balkan, it is slightly lower compared to the previous parliamentary elections on April 2, 2023, when it was 10.3%. As regards the European Parliament election, voter turnout is slightly higher- 10.4%.

The electoral process in Bulgaria started as usual with low voter turnout – around 4% by 9:00 am. Voter turnout is slightly higher as compared to the previous elections on April 2, 2023, when it was 3.6% by 9.00 am. As regards the European Parliament elections, voter turnout is slightly higher- 4.2%.

''The more loyal voters are currently voting, which is not surprising'', Gallup International Balkan Executive Director Parvan Simeonov said for BNR. Gallup International Balkan is BNR’s partner in covering the early Parliamentary elections in Bulgaria and the European Parliament election.  "Beyond the media mainstream, a parallel counterculture is forming in Bulgaria, which can produce representatives. We may notice them tonight", said Parvan Simeonov.
