Unit 5 or Kozloduy NPP now operates with American nuclear fuel

The scheduled annual maintenance of Unit 5 of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant has been completed, the plant announced. The unit was reconnected to the national electricity grid at 9:53 AM following an inspection and a positive assessment by the Bulgarian Nuclear Regulatory Agency.

BTA recalls that Unit 5 of the Kozloduy NPP was shut down for scheduled annual maintenance and refueling with nuclear fuel on May 5. As part of Kozloduy NPP's programme to diversify nuclear fuel supplies, 43 fuel assemblies manufactured by Westinghouse were loaded into the reactor. This marks the beginning of a four-year process of Unit 5's phased transition to RWFA nuclear fuel.
