Rainfall in the country below climate normals

Rainfall in Bulgaria so far has been below climate norms. Viktoria Kleshtanova, a weather analyst at the National Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH), told BNR that the cumulonimbus cloud cover overnight was at its thickest in the Central Balkan, where rainfall reached 64 litres per square metre in the town of Shipka. 

Chiflika and Lozana Hut recorded 44 litres per square metre, Targovishte 27 litres and Ribaritsa 21 litres. 

This morning, small hailstorms occurred in places in the Sofia region, with recorded amounts of up to 12 litres per square metre. In the afternoon, heavy cumulonimbus clouds will develop especially in central, southern and eastern Bulgaria. Precipitation is expected to reach 50-60 litres per square metre.
