Bulgaria is among the countries with a permanent establishment of the tiger mosquito

Bulgaria is among the countries in Europe where the tiger mosquito, which carries viruses such as dengue and zika, has become established. This was announced by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and warned of a rise in mosquito-borne disease infections. 

"As of this year, the Asian tiger mosquito has been permanently established in Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia and Spain," said European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control director Andrea Ammon.   

Climate change is creating the right conditions for the spread of invasive mosquitoes to territories previously unaffected, Ammon explained.
