Representatives of the Austrian and German interior ministries are stationed and working at Sofia Airport, according to an official statement from the Ministry of the Interior. The document quotes Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov, the website segabg.com reports. In Kalin Stoyanov's words, ''an Austrian advisor on document security is working together with our officers at Sofia Airport, and our actions are also being supported by a German representative''.

The potential deployment of German police officers was mentioned in mid-April by German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser during her visit to Bulgaria. At that time, she described the deployment of German police officers in the country as an act of taking on shared responsibility. Now, however, it becomes clear that Austria has also stationed an officer at Sofia Airport. Austria is the only country that officially stops Bulgaria and Romania from entering the Schengen by land.
