The ban on heavy goods vehicles travelling through the Petrohan Pass remains in force, according to the Road Infrastructure Agency, which said there was no order to change the traffic rules. A new protest by local residents against the opening of Petrohan to heavy trucks temporarily blocked the road at the village of Burzia on the evening of 17 June.

The authorities have decided that the E-79 road between Mezdra and Botevgrad will be rerouted for heavy vehicles. The development of this section will continue without rerouting heavy vehicles to the old mountain pass. Petrohan is currently the main road link for cars and buses between north-west Bulgaria and the rest of the country.

On June 18, traffic was heavy at the lorry exits on the borders with Romania and Greece, according to border police. The Nikopol-Turnu Magurele ferry is temporarily closed for technical work. At the Kalotina border crossing with Serbia, delays are expected due to ongoing repairs.
