Raya Nazaryan was elected President of the 50th National Assembly of Bulgaria. 131 MPs voted “for” her nomination, 66 “against, and 39 abstained.
The other nominations were Victoria Vassileva from Velichie, Petar Petrov from Vazrazhdaneand Silvi Kirilov from ITN.
Earlier, GERB leader Boyko Borissov stated that his party would not drop the nomination of Raya Nazaryan for President of the National Assembly. Unless a president is elected, there will be a constitutional crisis and even organizing elections would not be possible, he said. “The question if purely technological – we must elect a president of parliament who will send us to new elections! Now we can’t do even that,” Boyko Borissov said.
On his part the leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) Delyan Peevksi called for the formation of a Euro-Atlantic government that will preserve Bulgaria’s road of development.
