President Radev refuses to lead Bulgarian delegation to NATO summit

President Rumen Radev did not accept the Council of Ministers' proposal to lead the Bulgarian delegation to the NATO summit in Washington, the presidency said.

Rumen Radev did not agree with certain provisions of the framework positions adopted by the Council of Ministers on Sofia's commitments regarding the war in Ukraine. These framework positions will be upheld by Bulgaria at the NATO summit.

The positions were adopted at yesterday's government meeting but have not been made public and are for internal use only, BNR reporter Tsvetelina Stoyanova clarified. The Presidency refused to disclose the positions in question, telling BNR that "the Council of Ministers owes Bulgarian citizens an answer about the framework positions it has adopted and about the commitments our country is making regarding the war in Ukraine".
On June 21, the government decided that Bulgaria would be represented at the NATO summit by both President Rumen Radev and caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, and today the Council of Ministers proposed that the delegation be led by Radev.
