A retro train on the narrow gauge in July

Photo: museumvt.com

Every Saturday and Sunday in July, a retro train with vintage carriages will run on the narrow-gauge railway line from Septemvri station to Velingrad and Tsvetino stations and vice versa, as part of the 51st Velingrad Culture Festival. The tourist train will make its inaugural journey on 6 July, coinciding with the Velingrad holiday.

The composition is very attractive, the Bulgarian Railways points out, with two retro carriages, a standard passenger carriage and a coach pulled by a diesel locomotive. The carriages represent different periods in the history of the narrow-gauge railway.

One dates back to 1926, among the first delivered for the narrow gauge line, another from 1941, and a standard seating carriage from the early 1970s. Passengers will have the unique opportunity to experience the historical journey and ambiance of travelling by train, from the railway's inception to the present day.
