Eurozone finance ministers discussed the implementation of the requirements for the introduction of the European single currency in Bulgaria, Eurogroup President Paschal Donohoe said after a meeting in Brussels, BTA reports. He pointed out that according to the EU, Bulgaria meets all the requirements except for price stability.

Sofia has made good progress and we encourage it to continue with its efforts to reform and adopt the euro. This will happen after achieving sustainable convergence with the euro area, Donohoe explained.

EU economy commissioner Paolo Gentiloni said the Commission acknowledged progress on most of the requirements in the country, but expected improvements in the governance of Bulgarian state-owned companies.

Caretaker deputy prime minister and finance minister Lyudmila Petkova said that the law on the introduction of the euro has been submitted to parliament and hopes for its adoption soon.
