Bulgaria's Ministry of Defence keeps about 440 personnel on standby to fight fires

A total of 60 officers from the Bezmer and Kabile units are on the ground with equipment for firefighting, Bulgaria's Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov told bTV. About 440 personnel, in 15 formations in southern Bulgaria and seven formations in northern Bulgaria, are on standby.

The wildfires between Bulgaria and Greece are being monitored with caution and the unit in Blagoevgrad is ready to be activated at the request of Fire Safety and Civil Protection General Directorate.

In Zapryanov's words, the Ministry of Defence has responded to all calls for servicemen to join the firefighting and liquidation of its consequences.

If necessary, two more helicopters can be equipped for firefighting in the short term.
