The Bulgarian state is planning to allocate significant funding for the new laboratory at the Bulgarian base in Antarctica, public service TV BNT reports, quoting Minister of Education Galin Tsokov.

A little over EUR 5 million will be allocated by the end of 2025 to finance the Saints Cyril and Methodius research ship and the Antarctica missions, Minister Tsokov stated in Varna where he attended a ceremony marking three years since the ship became part of the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy. At a special ceremony at the seaport in the city, officers from the Saints Cyril and Methodius received awards, among them the ship’s commander Captain second rank Nikolai Danailov. Under his command the ship has had two successful missions to Antarctica.

During the next mission, preparations for which are currently underway, the ship will be under the command of Radko Muevski, until now second in command.
