Bulgarians honor the work of the Seven Saints

Photo: pravoslavieto.com

On July 27, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and people glorify the work of the seven saints- the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius, and their disciples Saints Kliment, Naum, Sava, Gorazd and Angelarius. The day was chosen by the church because on July 27, 916, the great enlightener and Bulgarian writer, who was sent by St. Tsar Boris I the Baptist as archbishop of Berat in the southwestern regions of the medieval Bulgarian lands, passed away. There and in Ohrid, St. Kliment worked diligently day and night and trained over 3,500 clergy. In his biography it is written that "he, as the new apostle Paul, ennobled the unenlightened Bulgarian people and elevated them spiritually, leading them on the path of salvation". On July 27, Christians also honor the memory of the selfless healer St. Pantaleon.
