The Romanian Border Police has ordered measures to ensure operational control and reduce waiting times at the border with Bulgaria at Giurgiu-Ruse, where heavy traffic is expected over the weekend, BTA reported, citing the Agerpres agency.

An increase in traffic is expected over the weekend, especially at the Giurgiu border crossing, both in incoming and outgoing directions, in the context of the summer season.

Due to repairs on the Bulgarian section of the "Friendship Bridge" between Ruse and Giurgiu, traffic is alternating in one lane with traffic lights, which is expected to increase waiting times at the Giurgiu-Ruse border crossing.

The Bulgarian Interior Ministry is also warning of increased traffic from Romanian tourists travelling to and from Greece via Bulgaria.

Cross-border travellers are advised to use the Traffic On-line application, which shows the average waiting time at checkpoints, and to use the other border crossings open to international traffic at the border with Bulgaria.

A second ferry will be put into operation at the Zimnicea BCP from 1 August. The vessels will operate in tandem (Svishtov-Zimnicea) between 08:00 and 19:00, reports Agerpres.
