Around 2,120 military personnel from different land forces units have taken part in the efforts to put out wildfires in different parts of the country since 12 July this year, the Ministry of Defence has announced. Some of them are still working in the field alongside military from the air force, firefighters from the Fire Safety and Civil Protection directorate general, forest rangers and volunteers.
There are 18 military personnel from the 3rd brigade command with 6 specialized machines currently taking part in the efforts to extinguish the fire in Slavyanka mountain on the Bulgarian-Greek border which started 22 days ago. A total of 135 fires have been extinguished during the past 24 hours alone, in which one person has been injured, the Fire Safety and Civil Protection directorate general reports.
