In the period January-April 2024 Bulgaria’s main export of cheese and curd was to Greece (882 tons, or a drop of 48.6% compared to the same period of 2023), the United Kingdom (871 t, or an increase of 22.1%) and the USA (844 t, growth of 22.1%). This is shown by a report of the Ministry of Agriculture. Regarding the import of cheese in Bulgaria, the ministry states that in 2023 the main importers in Bulgaria were Germany (10,574 tons), Poland (6,921 tons) and the Netherlands (6,475 tons).

Statistics show a significant drop in the total production of milk - from 924,980 thousand liters in 2021 to 791,757 thousand liters in 2023. A decrease is seen in the production of cow, sheep and goat milk, a slight increase is seen only in the production of buffalo milk.
