MPs propose draft decision for video surveillance in elevators and corridors of Parliament due to cases of violence

MPs from We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (PP-DB) and independent MPs from the former Velichie parliamentary group have submitted a draft decision to install video surveillance cameras in the elevators and internal corridors of the National Assembly, in order to ensure the security of the MPs. The reasons for the proposal outline a number of incidents that have occurred in the short history of the latest parliament.

''Some of these incidents took place outside the plenary hall—in the elevators and internal corridors, spaces that are convenient for aggressive behavior, away from the view of security cameras", the MPs wrote. According to them, in some cases, the attacks have involved sharp verbal assaults in the elevators, while in others, a group of MPs physically attacked individual MPs. ''This is just a continuation of the aggression in the plenary hall, for which no MP has been sanctioned so far, despite the fact that hate speech, insults and outright slander have been used from the parliamentary rostrum", MPs further state.

The latest clash between MPs took place last week between Yavor Bozhankov from PP-DB and Kosta Stoyanov from Vazrazhdane.
