A Thracian temple from the 3rd century BC, unparalleled in Bulgaria, can turn 10 acres of Plovdiv's South region into an archaeological park. The site is located at the base of the Great Mound, which a team of the Plovdiv-based Regional Archaeological Museum has been studying for the third year now.

The large mound is 90 meters in diameter and 12 meters high, and the Thracian temple is 10 meters long and has two rooms connected by a triangular pediment and a stone entrance frame. In the eastern room, where the rites were performed, the remains of many clay vessels and animal bones, including those of a deer, were found.

"The construction technique of the temple is characteristic only for the region, and at the time of the tribes of the Besi, Odrisi and Sapei", said the director of the museum Assoc. Prof. Kostadin Kisiov. According to him, the building is well preserved, all the building material is available and it can be completely restored.

The large mound in the South area is the largest in Bulgaria and the last surviving one in the area.
