Bulgaria has spent more than EUR 250 million on elections since 2021

At the end of October, Bulgaria is to hold parliamentary elections for the second time in 2024, this time for the 51st National Assembly. Since the beginning of 2021, these is the seventh consecutive parliamentary elections and the sixth early election. The country has spent nearly 514,716,900 BGN (over 250 million EUR) on elections, reported BTA. This amount includes expenses for the regular presidential elections and the European Parliament elections held in early June of this year.

Here is the breakdown of the costs: Bulgaria has spent 65,649,500 BGN (over 30 million EUR) for the elections on April 4, 2021 and 68,191,500 BGN (nearly 35 million EUR) for the elections on July 11, 2021. On November 14 of the same year, a two-in-one vote (Parliamentary and Presidential elections) is held in the country which cost 123,964,200 BGN (over 60 million EUR). 71,044 BGN (more than 35 million EUR) was spent for the early Parliamentary elections on October 2, 2022. 87,687,800 BGN (nearly 40 million EUR) was spent on the elections on April 2, 2023. A total of 98,179,400 BGN (nearly 50 million EUR) was spent for the European Parliament elections and the Parliamentary elections on June 9, 2024.
