Natural gas prices increase by 1.9% in September compared to the previous month. The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission set the price of natural gas for September 2024 at 61.91 BGN per megawatt-hour —excluding access, transmission, excise duty and VAT costs, the EWRC press office said.
The price mix includes the contracted quantity of Azerbaijani natural gas, delivered via the Bulgaria-Greece interconnector, which is forecast to meet about 79% of gas consumption for September. Another source will be the underground gas storage facility at Chiren, Northwestern Bulgaria.
According to EWRC, the gas price approved by the regulator is higher than the initial proposal, because the price proposed by Bulgargaz is much more favorable compared to that on international markets, which led customers to submit requests for additional quantities of natural gas. This increases the total amount of natural gas needed to cover monthly consumption and pushed the price up.
