PP-DB opposes SJC move to elect new Prosecutor General

We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (PP-DB) called on the Supreme Judicial Council not to reopen the procedure for the election of a new Prosecutor-General, saying that its mandate had expired and that it had no legitimacy to determine who would be the Prosecutor-General for the next seven years.

"The SJC in its current composition imposed Ivan Geshev as Prosecutor-General on the Bulgarian citizens and refused to dismiss him in 2022. The same SJC experienced a moment of catharsis in just twenty-four hours after a change in the political situation in the country and dismissed Ivan Geshev," MP Nadezhda Yordanova told journalists in Parliament.

Asked about the Yes Bulgaria party's social media post about a letter it had allegedly received from banker Tsvetan Vassilev, claiming evidence of blackmail by Delyan Peevski, and whether there would be a motion to lift the MRF co-leader's immunity, Nadezhda Yordanova said that "this issue is subject to procedures that are about to unfold."

According to Tsvetan Vassilev, there are more than half a billion leva in uncollected loans from companies linked to Delyan Peevski. "I have no debts, I don't owe a penny to any bank. Whoever manages to find any debt of mine or my company to a bank, I will immediately give up my immunity. Nobody can get anything against Peevski - nothing, nothing, nothing," the MP said.
